Wingham Hospital Emergency Room closure on Saturday night

A staff shortage has compelled Wingham and Distrcit Hospital to close its emergency department from 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, to 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 10.

In case of a medical emergency, patients are urged to dial 911. Emergency Medical Services (EMS), or ambulances, will continue to operate and will be redirected to nearby hospitals to ensure that local residents still have access to essential emergency services.

For non-urgent healthcare inquiries, individuals can contact Health Connect Ontario at 811, a service available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions.

Below is a list of the nearest hospitals, although it's advisable to confirm their operational status before visiting due to potential temporary closures resulting from staffing shortages:

  • Listowel

  • Clinton (Reduced Hours – Open 8 am to 6 pm)

  • Goderich

  • Palmerston

  • Seaforth

  • Kincardine

  • Walkerton
