Temporary emergency department closure extended

An overnight closure of the Durham Hospital Emergency Department (ED) will now last into the week.

The South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) announced on Sunday morning that the ED will be unavailable throughout the day.

The initial closure was to take place from 5 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday. It will now last until 7 a.m. on Monday.

Local ambulances are still available to residents in a medical emergency, the SBGHC said patients will be diverted to the closest open ED.

The closest 24-hour Emergency Departments to the Durham hospital are:

• Hanover (20km)

• Mount Forest (25km)

• Walkerton (28km)

• Markdale (28km)

• Owen Sound (46km)

• Palmerston (46km)
