Dog owner in Southampton biting sought

Grey Bruce Public Health is looking for the owner of a dog that bit a cyclist in Southampton on Saturday.

Around 11:30 a.m. on September 23, the Health Unit says a large dog bit a woman riding a bike on Spence Street between Grenville Street South and Anglesia Street South.

The dog appeared to be a cross between a heeler and border collie. It was being walked with a smaller dog by two other women, who appeared to be a mother and daughter. The pair were with two children, including one who was driving a battery-powered, ride-on car.

The Health Unit says they need to confirm the dog is not infectious with rabies and by verifying the health of the animal, the victim can avoid receiving the post-exposure rabies treatment.

Anyone with information is asked to call Grey Bruce Public Health at 519-376-9420 ext. 1364.
