Unemployment dips in Midwestern Ontario in September

The unemployment rate in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region dipped slightly in September.

That's according to the latest numbers revealed by the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, which shows that locally, unemployment went down 0.3 percent to land at 4.2 percent last month. Provincially, unemployment increased very slightly by 0.1 percent to land at 6.4 percent, with both numbers unadjusted for seasonality.

The region’s labour force size decreased from 164,300 in August to 162,700 in September 2023. The size of the population not participating in the labour force also increased by 2,000, bringing the participation rate down by 0.7 percentage points to 59.6 percent.

Current job postings for the Bruce, Grey, Huron, Perth region have increased over time since the pandemic and can be found at www.connect2JOBS.ca. The current number of job postings has reached almost 2,000.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
