West Grey firefighters honoured for service

Several members of the West Grey Fire Service were honoured this week with Exemplary Service Medals.

On Thursday, the Governor General's Office of Canada presented Exemplary Service Medal Awards to three firefighters who have served for over 20 years.

Captain Scott Kuntz, who started his service in 2001; Captain Dave Clark who started in 2002 and Firefighter / Pump Operator Andrew Brown who began his service in 2001.

Forty year service bars were also given to Former Captain Darrell Peter and Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Hilgendorf, who both started back in 1982.

The Office of the Fire Marshal also recognized four members with the Fire Services Long Service Medal, which is awarded after 25-years, with service bars given in five year increments.

Former Deputy Chief Ronald Pfeffer received the 25-year Long Service Medal; Captain Brian Liesemer received a 35-year Service Bar; and Hilgendorf and Peter both received a 40-year Service Bar.

The Municipality of West Grey extended congratulations to all recipients, saying in a release "Their selfless dedication and tireless commitment to the fire service and the community have been instrumental in ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents."

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
