Port Elgin man charged with assault on community trail

A Port Elgin man is facing charges of sexual assault and criminal harassment after allegedly accosting a woman on a local trail.

On Wednesday, October 12, around 7 p.m., Saugeen Shores Police responded to a report of an assault along a community trail near Trillium Drive.

According to police, the female victim was walking alone on the trail when she was confronted and assaulted by a man. A struggle followed and the victim broke free and ran to a nearby street and called police.

Officers located a suspect nearby and placed a 25-year-old man under arrest.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and released by the court on October 13.
