Charges laid after officer assaulted during arrest

One person is facing charges following an assault incident in Wiarton.

The Grey-Bruce OPP responded to a disturbance on Boyd Street in Wiarton on December 2. Police arrived to find two individuals in a heated argument inside a residence on the property.

A physical altercation took place, and a victim was assaulted but suffered no significant injuries. Officers then placed a suspect under arrest, during which time the suspect resisted arrest and physically assaulted the arresting officer. The officer was not injured.

As a result, a 35-year-old from South Bruce Peninsula is facing a lengthy list of charges including assault with intent to resist arrest, assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The accused was held in custody for the purpose of attending a bail hearing.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
