Crash into fire hydrant floods nearby residence, results in charges

A crash into a fire hydrant has resulted in impaired driving charges for a Bluewater resident.

On November 28, at 7:30 p.m., Huron County OPP responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on Charles Street near Chiniquy Street in Bayfield.

Members of the Bayfield Fire Department also responded. The driver and 3 passengers in the vehicle weren't injured, but the driver failed a roadside test and was found to be impaired by alcohol.

The damaged fire hydrant caused flooding in a nearby residence. As a result, a 44-year-old from Bluewater has been charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving.

The accused has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for January 8, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich. The license of the accused has been suspended for 90 days.
