South Bruce amends funding agreement with NWMO

South Bruce Council recently amended its Multi-Year Funding Agreement with the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO), for what should be the final stretch of assessment before a decision on the deep geological repository.

The motion passed by council carried over $415,000 unused dollars from this year to next, meaning a total budget of over $2.34 million for 2024,

The funding provided by the NWMO covers the costs the Municipality incurs to independently assess the benefits and potential impacts of siting a deep geological repository in South Bruce.

The NWMO thinks they'll reach a decision on a preferred site for the repository in Fall of 2024. The choice is down to the Ignace area in Northwestern Ontario and South Bruce.
