Firefighters respond to large barn fire near Wingham

Firefighters were called to the scene of a large barn fire north of Wingham.

The fire began in a large barn located on Glenannon Road during the morning of Monday, December 18, 2023.

North Huron Deputy Fire Chief Chad Kregar says it is unclear if any animals were lost in the blaze, or what the cause of the fire is, but he did say that they would be on the scene for several days.

A release from the Township of North Huron states that a North Huron fire truck responding to the blaze was involved in a motor vehicle incident, and two firefighters were transported to the Wingham and District Hospital, but both have since been released.

"An assessment of the damage to the North Huron Fire Truck will be completed and arrangements have been made to ensure adequate fire services continue in the areas served by the Fire Department of North Huron," read the release.

Members of the public are asked to avoid the area. An investigation into the fire is ongoing.
