Saugeen Shores celebrates silver anniversary in 2024

Saugeen Shores council will meet on Friday as it lays out plans for the town's 25th anniversary celebration.

In recognition of the amalgamation between Port Elgin, Southampton, and Saugeen Township that took place in 1999, there will be festivities throughout the year, starting January 5.

The meeting at 1 p.m. in the afternoon will celebrate the anniversary of the inaugural Council meeting.

The Municipal Heritage Committee has also created two interactive online driving tours that navigate to points of interest around the Town. Both the Borders Tour and the Better Together story maps are available on the Saugeen Shores website.

The local Chamber of Commerce will host a community time capsule project commemorating the last 25 years since amalgamation. Submissions open on Monday, January 8 until July 15.

Finally, there will be a "Better Together" weekend celebration running from August 9-11, featuring food, games, activities and local music.

Those that want to learn more about the celebration can tune into Friday's meeting on YouTube.
