Dufferin OPP investigate fatal collision in Melancthon involving horse and buggy

One person has died after a collision involving a horse and buggy in the Township of Melancthon.

Emergency crews attended the scene involving a vehicle and a single horse and buggy Friday at County Road 9 at 2nd line shortly before 7 p.m.

The 21 year-old male driver from Melancthon was transported to a local hospital.

He was later transported by ambulance to a Toronto-area trauma centre with life threatening injuries, where he died from his injuries.

The male driver of the sedan fled the scene but police located them a short time later.

A veterinarian also arrived to the scene to provide care to the horse who had extensive injuries.

County Road 9 was closed for several hours.

The Traffic Collision team of the OPP was also brought in to investigate.

The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is being asked to contact Dufferin OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
