Three injured in North Perth fire

Three people, including one youth, were injured in a house fire south of Monkton on the weekend.

Fire crews were called to 5773 Line 53 on Friday night and battled the blaze into Saturday. The three North Perth fire stations, in Listowel, Monkton and Atwood, responded to the fire. Mutual Aid was received from West Perth.

The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office was contacted because of the extent of the youth's injuries.

The fire also caused an estimated $500,000 in damage, and the home is a complete loss according to the North Perth Fire Department.

"The public is reminded that installing and maintaining smoke and carbon monoxide alarms is the law in the Province of Ontario.  A home escape plan coupled with early detection from working smoke alarms can save your life in the event of a fire. If you have questions about home escape planning or smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, please contact your local fire department," said North Perth Fire Chief Janny Pape.
