Brightshores Health expands Medical Device Reprocessing

A ribbon-cutting event celebrated the official opening of Brightshores Health System's updated Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD).

The expanded space will include critical components aimed at enhancing the quality and safety of medical device reprocessing. There's also a new surgical waiting area, and a new scope reprocessing area. The renovations complement state-of-the-art technology implemented in 2022.

“The updates we have made to this department ensure that we can continue to provide safe and quality care to our patients into the future. Our team has been working diligently to make these improvements. This is a true example of our commitment to safety.” said Brightshores President and CEO Ann Ford.

“Brightshores MDRD processes thousands of instruments every week. Having updated technology such as our instrument tracking system, along with our new satellite reprocessing area in the operating room, ensures our team can continue providing exemplary reprocessing services," said Cara Singh, Director of Surgery, Women and Child Program. "This was a team effort to make this happen and we are thrilled to continue the good work our patients are accustomed to.”

The department processes thousands of reusable medical instruments around the clock every week.
