UPDATE: Mount Forest school fire forces closure

St. Mary Catholic School in Mount Forest is closed after to a fire at the building.

Around 6:15 a.m. Thursday, the Wellington North Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at the school on Parkside Drive in Mount Forest.

Fire crews said upon arrival there were flames coming through the roof of the school.

There were no occupants in the building at the time of the fire, and there are no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters on scene.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but it is not considered suspicious.

Officials say a damage estimate is also unavailable at this time.

The Wellington Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) is currently working with local emergency services to assess the scope of the damage.

The board says it is developing a temporary accommodation plan to support the continuity of learning for students and WCDSB officials will provide updates to school families on the situation when available.

There is no school for students on Friday, January 26, as it is a scheduled professional development day across elementary schools in the WCDSB.
