High levels of air pollution are possible this afternoon.

An AIR QUALITY WARNING is in place due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality. Hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations this afternoon. Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout the day with the potential of short-term high risk AQHI values in the afternoon.

When air pollution levels are high, everyone should limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

Provincial police say a 67-year-old from Etobicoke was killed in a collision on Highway 21 in Georgian Bluffs. Emergency crews were called to the highway between Grey Road 3 and Grey Road 18 around 9 p.m. Wednesday. A pick-up truck and a sedan had collided, critically injuring one of the passengers. The 67-year-old was rushed to hospital, however life saving efforts were unsuccessful and they were pronounced dead. The road was closed for several hours, but re-opened on Thursday afternoon. Members of the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team are assisting the Grey Bruce OPP with the investigation
