Ontario Provincial Police say a London-area man picked the wrong time to shoplift.
A Huron County OPP officer was off-duty in Exeter on the afternoon of February 20, when they received a report about a shoplifting at a business on Thames Road East.
The officer followed the suspect before making their presence known and producing their OPP badge. The man tried to resist arrest but was quickly subdued.
On-duty officers soon arrived and took the man into custody.
About $750 worth of merchandise was recovered.
The 33-year-old man, of no fixed address, is charged with theft under $5,000, resisting a peace officer, and possession of methamphetamine.
The charges have not been proven in court. The suspect was held for a bail hearing and an appearance set in a Goderich court.
