Perth County paramedic killed in Swiss avalanche

Perth County is mourning the loss of a local paramedic who passed away while on a trip overseas.

According to the county, Nikky Nagy was involved in a snowboarding accident while on vacation in Switzerland and tragically died in an avalanche.

"Nikky was a bright, caring, amazing person and a part of our Perth County family," read a statement from Perth County's Warden Rhonda Ehgoetz. "Nikky’s family shared with us that she died while doing what she loved."

The avalanche at the Swiss ski resort of Zermatt also claimed the lives of a 15-year-old teenager and a 58-year-old Swiss man, according to Agence France-Presse.

Nagy began her career as a paramedic with the county in August 2022.

In her honour, flags at the Perth County Courthouse and Perth County Paramedic Services Headquarters in Stratford will be lowered until the day of the funeral.
