Homeowner assaulted by trespasser

One person has been arrested and charged after a trespassing report led to a homeowner and a police officer being assaulted in Meaford.

On April 6, the Grey Bruce OPP were called regarding an alleged assault that had taken place at a property on Highway 6 and 10 in the Municipality of Meaford.

Officers arrived and were told the caller had found a trespasser on their property. When the property owner approached the individual, the trespasser struck the property owner with a golf club. The trespasser then damaged the property owner's side-by-side with the golf club.

As the police arrived and were attempting to gain control of the individual, the individual resisted arrest and uttered death threats towards the caller and police.

Following the incident, a 50-year-old is facing numerous charges including assault with a weapon, resisting a peace officer, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
