Owen Sound Police charge 'porch pirate'

A 39-year-old Owen Sound woman is facing charges after allegedly swiping a delivery off the porch of a west-side residence.

Owen Sound Police responded on Friday afternoon when a package was reported stolen.

According to police, with the assistance of a residential security camera, they were able to identify the female suspect. Officers searched the area and were able to locate and arrest the female, who had the package in her possession.

The stolen items were returned to the victim and the accused was charged with theft and possession of property obtained by crime. She is scheduled to appear in court in May.

Owen Sound Police say they've had increased reports for thefts of delivered packages. Tips they offer to help prevent thefts include installing cameras, using a front porch lock box, requesting that packages require a signature at delivery or having packages delivered to the workplace.
