Hanover man allegedly flees traffic stop, assaults officer

A Hanover man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting a police officer after a traffic stop Tuesday night.

According to local police, they investigated a report of a suspected impaired driver along 10th Street around 11:30 p.m.

Officers located the suspect vehicle in a drive-thru of a restaurant.

Police allege the 24-year-old driver refused to provide a breath sample and struck an officer in the face while attempting to run from the scene.

The man was apprehended after a brief chase and a search of the suspect allegedly found a small amount of methamphetamine and open alcohol in the vehicle.

The suspect was prohibited from driving for a previous impaired driving conviction in 2022.

The man is now facing a long list of charges, including resisting a peace officer, assault with intent to resist arrest, driving while under suspension, and possession of a schedule one substance.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
