The Hanover Police Service is hosting a fun new contest for local students.
The "Chief for a Day" contest is open to Hanover students. The idea for the contest coincides with Police Week, which runs May 12-18. The theme of the week this year is "Join Policing: Keep Ontario Safe."
On that note, Hanover Police Service is looking for local students from grades 5-8 to write a short essay detailing how they will make a positive contribution to community safety and well-being.
The essays can be delivered to the Hanover Police Service station or emailed to Special Constable Jaime Ashton at jashton@hanoverps.ca on or before May 9 at 4 p.m.
After the closing date, the essays will be reviewed, and the two candidates will be selected by members of the Hanover Police Service Board and the Hanover Police Service.
The Chief designate and the Deputy Chief designate will be notified on May 15, outfitted for police uniforms, and then report for duty on June 13.
On June 13, the new junior chiefs will be sworn in, briefed, given station tours, assigned to patrol and help welcome Special Olympians who are participating in the annual Special Olympics Torch Run that day.
