Axe-wielding man arrested during break-in

Hanover police have arrested a 24-year-old man following a scary incident involving an axe.

Shortly after 10 a.m. on Wednesday, police responded to a break-and-enter in progress at an apartment on 8th Avenue.

Police said officers got to the scene within minutes and arrested the suspect without incident.

When they arrived, officers determined that a man had kicked in the door of the apartment, which belonged to a female acquaintance.

"The suspect was in possession of an axe," police said in a statement. The axe was seized by the responding officers.

According to police, the female victim locked herself and her toddler in the bathroom until officers arrived.

The suspect faces charges of break-and-enter with intent and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
