Biting incident reported in Saugeen Shores

Grey Bruce Public Health is looking to verify the rabies status of a dog that bit someone in Saugeen Shores.

According to Health Unit, the incident occurred on Friday morning around 9:15 a.m.

While running on the boardwalk on May 17 at the Southampton beach, between Adelaide Street and Chantry View Drive.

The animal is described as a brown-and-white, medium-sized dog, believed to be a Springer Spaniel. The dog was on a leash at the time of the incident, with its owner, described as a man in his 60s to 70s with grey hair.

GBPH says it needs to confirm the dog is not infectious with the rabies virus so the victim can avoid receiving the post-exposure rabies treatment.
