The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged two individuals in connection with the theft of a lottery ticket in Mitchell.

The investigation, conducted by the OPP’s Investigation and Enforcement Bureau (IEB) and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), began after a suspicious $50,000 lottery win was reported on December 14, 2023.

A 44-year-old from Mitchell and a 51-year-old from Stratford have been charged with fraud and possession of stolen property over $5,000. The investigation revealed that the winning ticket was allegedly stolen by a store employee and claimed by an associate.

Both suspects have been released and are set to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date.

The IEB, part of the AGCO, ensures integrity and safety in regulated industries through criminal, provincial, and regulatory investigations.
