Fire destroys Watson's Home Hardware in Goderich

Goderich Fire Chief Jeff Wormington says they are still seeking the cause after a fire gutted Watson's Home Hardware in Goderich.

The store on Bayfield Road was closed when the fire was spotted by a passerby Saturday.

"We responded to the Home Hardware in Goderich at approximately 7 p.m. on Saturday evening," explained Wormington. "The interior of the structure was fully engulfed. We couldn't make entry."

Wormington said over 100 firefighters were called to the scene

"We brought in personnel from six other departments," he continued. "It was an exterior fight only."

There is no final estimate, but damage could be as high as $4-million.

The cause is unknown at this time. Wormington said the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office and Goderich OPP are assisting as they investigate the fire. No one was injured in the blaze.
