Damage pegged at $100K in former hospital break-in

Grey Bruce OPP are investigating after a break-in at the former Markdale Hospital caused over $100,000 in damage.

On July 2, police began an investigation into a report of a break-and-enter at the former Markdale Hospital, which has been closed since 2023.

Officers found there was damage to the building, and numerous items were stolen. Those include a Milwaukee 18-volt drill, a Milwaukee 18-volt impact driver, and two ridged pipe wrenches that were 16 or 18-inch aluminum. Other hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, and adjustable wrenches, as well as copper pipe were also taken.

Police say damage to the building exceeds $100,000. This is the second break-in at the former hospital. The first was in October of 2023.

Anyone who may have information regarding this break-and-enter should contact Grey Bruce OPP or Crime Stoppers.
