Wingham ED closing overnight

The Wingham and District Hospital is temporarily closing its emergency department on Saturday night.

According to a release from the Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance, the closure is a last resort due to staffing shortages.

The ED will close at 9 p.m. and reopen Sunday morning at 7 a.m.

Ambulances will bypass the hospital during the closure period and travel to the nearest open ED. The closest hospitals are Listowel, Goderich, Palmerston, Seaforth, Kincardine and Walkerton.

LWHA says it deeply regrets taking this action, but appreciates the community’s patience and understanding during this time.
