Two charged after woman repeatedly punched with brass knuckles

A pair of Owen Sound residents are accused of poking a woman in the eye and then repeatedly punching her while wearing brass knuckles.

According to Owen Sound police, the assault took place in a moving vehicle in the area of 16th Street East and 9th Avenue East on July 16. The woman was taken to Brightshores Hospital by paramedics for treatment of undisclosed injuries. She has since been released.

Police were called about the incident and arrested a 24-year-old woman from Owen Sound later the same day as the attack. She has been charged with assault and is scheduled to appear in court on August 8.

A 33-year-old Owen Sound man was arrested by Saugeen Shores police a day later on an unrelated incident. A set of brass knuckles was seized during his arrest. Police alleged he was also involved in the Owen Sound attack. The man is charged with several offences including assault with a weapon, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order, and failure to comply with an undertaking and probation order. The man is set to make his next court appearance on August 15

The woman who was attacked and the two accused were known to each other, police said.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
