OPP reminding parents to properly secure children in car seats

Police are reminding parents to properly secure children in car seats following a recent incident that led to charges.

The Grey Bruce OPP were doing routine seatbelt patrols on August 4, at Main Street and Lakeshore Boulevard in Sauble Beach. At 3:10 p.m., officers saw a vehicle stopped at a stop sign and one officer spotted a child of toddler age standing up in the vehicle between the driver and front passenger seats.

According to police, the child had its arms holding the head rests of the driver and front passenger seats. Officers pulled over and charged a 41-year-old from Mississauga with drive while child passenger not properly secured.

Later that day, the same officer spotted two passengers in the back of a vehicle with no seatbelts on. The officer pulled the vehicle over and then saw a 10-month old child in a car seat with no restraints strapped in. A 41-year-old from Saskatchewan was then also charged with drive while child passenger not properly secured.
