One charged with assault and impaired driving after traffic stop

A 20-year-old from Central Huron is facing a number of charges following an assault earlier this month.

On August 9 just after 1 p.m., Huron County OPP officers responded to a report of an assault that had just occurred on Suncoast Drive in the Town of Goderich.

The victim of the alleged assault notified police that the suspect drove away and a description of the vehicle was given to police.

Officers spotted the described vehicle a short time later on Huron Road and conducted a traffic stop. Police arrested the driver for assault and also determined the driver was impaired after the suspect failed a roadside breathalyzer test.

As a result, the 20-year-old suspect from Central Huron faces charges of assault and impaired driving. The accused was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich on September 23.

The vehicle involved was also impounded for 7 days and the suspect's drivers license was suspended for 90 days.
