Suspect charged after police officer assaulted

A Windsor native is facing numerous charges, including assaulting a police officer, following a traffic stop in Huron County.

According to the Huron County OPP, on August 11 just before 8 p.m., police were patrolling on Bluewater Highway in South Huron when they observed a motor vehicle being driven erratically.

Officers pulled the vehicle over and spoke with the driver. The officers determined the driver had been consuming alcohol and was arrested for impaired driving.

The suspect was then taken to the Lambton OPP detachment in Grand Bend, where they allegedly assaulted a police officer during processing. According to police, the accused also refused to provide the required breath samples and was charged for refusing to provide the sample.

A 37-year-old from Windsor now faces charges of impaired driving, assaulting a peace officer, and failure or refusal to comply with a demand.

The accused was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for September 16 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.

The accused's vehicle was impounded for seven days and their license suspended for 90 days.
