One charged in Brockton human trafficking investigation

South Bruce OPP have announced charges against a West Grey resident after launching a human trafficking investigation in the area two months ago.

According to police, the OPP Crime Unit entered an investigation involving a victim from the Brockton area in June 2024.

As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old resident of West Grey been charged with six counts of assault, assault causing bodily harm, trafficking in persons, and material benefit resulting from trafficking in persons.

The OPP said it will not release the name of the person charged in this investigation to protect the identity of the victim.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton at a later date.

Police also remind victims of sexual assault and intimate partner violence there are local resources available to help, like Victim Services Bruce Grey Perth.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
