Local Kinsmen Club celebrates 65th anniversary

The Harriston Kinsmen were recently recognized for a big milestone.

The club was celebrated for its 65th anniversary this month on September 4. Past President, Curt McDonald, says being a part of such a significant local group and the group being recognized means a lot.

"It means a lot to the club. It means we can work together as a team and stay together for a long time. As well, it's nice to look back at some of our previous accomplishments," McDonald shared proudly.

For himself personally, McDonald says it's been a huge honour being part of the Harriston Kinsmen Club.

"I grew up volunteering in other organizations with my parents. So when I was approached to join the club here in Harriston, it was a no-brainer for me. I live in the community, my kids are growing up in the community, I enjoy putting on events. It's nice to see things that we've built and it's nice to see that we can be part of a club that has accomplished so much," McDonald added.

Without the Kinsmen, McDonald says the town would look very different.

"If we didn't have a Kinsmen Club in Harriston we wouldn't have a pool, we wouldn't have tennis courts. The arena would not look the way it does today. We're gonna have a basketball court up here very soon. It would be a different town. We hbelp work on the events that make the year go by," stated McDonald.

The Harriston Kinsmen have taken on a major project, revamping the grounds around the arena in town to make way for a new multi use sports pad with various events being put on by the club fundraising for the project.

The fundraising continues with a BBQ Raffle with the draw quickly approaching on September 21. Tickets have the chance to win a Traeger Smoker valued at $850, Blackstone Griddle valued at $650 and various denominations of Harriston Packers Gift Cards.

Tickets can be purchased for $10 each by contacting any member of the club or by messaging the Harriston Kinsmen over Facebook.

On September 28, the Kinsmen will host the 2nd annual Cornhole Tournament at the Harriston Curling Club starting at 1p.m. in support of the Palmerston Hospital MRI Campaign. Teams of 2 cost $75 with registration also including dinner. To register contact Cole Leslie at 226- 339-0459 or email Cole@LeslieMotors.com.

Also, the Kinsmen will host a trivia night at the Harriston Arena on October 25. More information can be found on their social media pages.
