Date set for inquest into death of Perth County man

A date has now been set for an inquest into the death of a Perth County man who died after an interaction with provincial police.

Dr. Elizabeth Urbantke, Regional Supervising Coroner for the West Region, announced Wednesday that the inquest into the death of Richard Racz will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 16. It's expected the inquest will hear from eight witnesses over the course of eight days.

Racz, who was 61 at the time of his death, died on April 14, 2018 an interaction with officers from the Ontario Provincial Police in Perth County. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

Dr. John Carlisle will be the presiding officer and Indira Stewart will be inquest counsel.
