Huron-Kinloss to host meeting on proposed development charges

The Township of Huron-Kinloss will hold a public meeting to discuss implementing a Development Charges By-law.

Development charges are fees on new developments that fund growth-related costs to the Township, such as transportation, water, and sewer services.

The meeting takes place October 16, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at Township of Huron-Kinloss council chambers in Ripley.

The proposed charges in a draft report would be about $4,000 per single and semi detached unit in Lucknow and Ripley, $3,300 for townhouses, $2,400 for apartment units, and $1,600 for retirement and nursing home units.

Single homes being built in the Lakeshore area would see a charge of about $2,000. Rural areas would see charges ranging from about $1,000 in rural Huron, to $400 in rural Kinloss.

Proposed development charges in the Finlay Street area of Ripley are about $58,247.71 as it is a new service area, and would need a new road and storm water system.
