Local business hosting hospital fundraiser

A local Listowel business is hosting an annual fundraiser to help support the hospital in town.

Karen Haverkamp at the Kitchen Cupboard and Icebox says they've been hosting the Souper (as in bowls of soup) Fundraiser since 2011.

"So this year it's October 11-12, all day long, and all the proceeds we raise from every bowl of soup, be it a hot bowl of soup or a frozen bucket of soup, we've got two sizes of buckets, all the proceeds are going to the Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation this year," Haverkamp explained.

Haverkamp adds that they know how integral the hospital is to the area, because they're only a block away from it at KCI.

"We hear every ambulance go by. We know that the hospital is an essential part of our community, not only for the health aspect but for the business community and attracting different businesses into our community. We need a great hospital and our hospital has been growing and providing so many new services over the last number of years," said Haverkamp.

Not only do she and the staff at KCI see how critical the hospital is, Haverkamp points out that the community who always turn out to support the fundraiser also recognize it, too.

"We love it, we find this community is really great at supporting small business or any event like this that's going on. So it's a good feeling, it really is. We hope to see everyone out and that they can come in and enjoy a hot bowl of soup and maybe take a frozen bucket home for a day when they don't feel like cooking," Haverkamp shared with a smile.

Haverkamp adds that if any local businesses want to make a bulk order for lunches for the Souper Fundraiser, they can reach out to the Kitchen Cupboard and Icebox ahead of October 11 and 12 and do that.
