Student pilot safe after emergency landing in Central Huron field

First responders have handled a second air emergency in Huron County within a week.

Central Huron firefighters and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a possible airplane crash in a farmer's field just north of Bayfield Road near Tipperary Line just after 5 p.m. on Thursday.

According to the OPP, a small plane experienced engine problems and performed an emergency landing in the field.

The 25-year-old student pilot, who was alone in the plane, was not hurt. There was no damage to the aircraft.

The plane had flown out of London and was headed for Goderich when it ran into trouble, police said. The aircraft was reportedly going to be inspected to ensure it is safe before the pilot flies it back to London.

This incident followed one that took place Saturday morning in Brussels. A small place crashed while attempting to land on a grass airstrip. The 68-year-old pilot was the only person on board. He suffered minor injuries.
