Three local Rotary Clubs announced a collective $150,000 donation to the Saugeen Shores Aquatic & Wellness Centre.
On October 17, The Rotary Clubs of Port Elgin, Saugeen Shores, and Southampton came together in a pledge ceremony at the site of the Aquatic & Wellness Centre to announce their collective donation towards the “Just Add Water” fundraising campaign.
In recognition of the generous contribution of $50,000 each club is pledging, the Town has granted sponsorship rights for the now named “Rotary Walking Track.”
“I know that each step on the ‘Rotary Walking Track’ will be a continuing reminder for our community of the on-going and shared commitment taken by our three rotary clubs towards the values of health, wellness, and ‘service above self’,” said Mayor of Saugeen Shores, Luke Charbonneau.
“I am so happy that the 3 Rotary clubs could come together to show our joint support of the AWC," added Katie Rice, President, The Rotary Club of Port Elgin. "I am sure the track will get lots of use from future track stars.”
“Saugeen Shores Rotary is very excited for this addition of an indoor walking track to our community," stated Addison Ziegler, President, The Rotary Club of Saugeen Shores. "This track will provide residents with an option to keep moving during the winter months as well as year-round.”
“The naming of the walking track is a proud moment for our club. It symbolizes our club’s dedication to inclusion and promoting fitness and well-being in our community," pointed out Sylvia Sheard, Community Services Director, Rotary Club of Southampton. "We look forward to seeing the positive impact this centre will have on our town.”
The Aquatic & Wellness Centre is currently under construction and will house an eight-lane pool, as well as a fitness and wellness centre. It is one of the Town's biggest capital projects to date and will serve as a regional recreational hub.
