A barn fire south of Mildmay that left several farm animals dead is not considered suspicious.
Firefighters were called to the farm on Concession 2 between Bruce Road 28 and Sideroad 5 South in Carrick Township just before 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. The blaze started inside the barn and quickly spread.
The farmer was able to get most of the cattle, pigs, and sheep out before the structure was engulfed in flames. However, an unspecified number of animals were killed.
No people were hurt.
A damage estimate has not yet been determined.
"The cause of the fire is being treated as non-suspicious," South Bruce OPP said.
Concession 2 was closed for several hours to allow firefighters to work safely. It was reopened in the afternoon.
