Bruce County has launched a new app to help connect drivers and riders to jobs.
The new Smart Commute app, a ride matching platform, is one way that the county says it's trying to address needs identified in the Transit Feasibility and Demand Study.
Claire Dodds, Commissioner of Community Development, says the county is excited about the launch of the new app which is available now.
"A live app that's available for employers to promote to their workforce in order to help folks get to work, help maybe reduce some congestion and also help riders and drivers share in some costs," Dodds explained.
Dodds says the county wanted to find some short term solutions for local transit and ride sharing as they look for more permanent and expansive transit options in years to come. She says this app will help do that.
"It can help colleagues connect who might not be familiar with the path that folks are commuting on a regular basis. It also provides an easy kind of technological solution to be able to connect folks who are looking for a ride or who can maybe offer a ride," added Dodds.
Local employers who are interested in the program are encouraged to email transit@brucecounty.on.ca to find out more information about how their workplace can become part of the Smart Commute Program.
"We really are looking to onboard employers who can help promote this app to their workforce. We've got materials to help employers do that and staff that will be available to help employers promote this opportunity to their workforce," said Dodds.
