Arrest made following investigation into stolen vehicle

The Owen Sound Police Service has made an arrest in connection to a stolen vehicle.

According to police, on December 5 at 5 a.m., a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado pick-up truck was stolen from an apartment building parking lot on the east side of Owen Sound.

A spare key that was found by the accused in the vehicle was used to start it. A witness informed police that they saw the vehicle leave the parking lot in a southbound direction.

Investigating officers later located the undamaged truck abandoned, with footprints leading away from the vehicle in the snow. Officers followed the footprints for several city blocks, and were later able to use video surveillance to identify the suspect.

At 8:10 p.m. on December 5, officers arrested the accused at their residence without incident. The 34-year-old man from Owen Sound was charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Failure to Comply with a Probation Order.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in January of 2025 to answer to the charges.
