Owen Sound fire considered suspicious

Fire crews were called to a triplex on 4th Avenue East in Owen Sound at 12:30 p.m. on December 7 after reports of smoke emanating from the building.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a working fire on the first floor that had extended to the second floor.

The on-scene commander quickly escalated the response to a third alarm, deploying additional resources to combat the blaze. A transitional attack strategy was employed, allowing crews to contain the fire and preserve the structure of the residential building. Eighteen Owen Sound firefighters were involved in the operation.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the damage is estimated at $500,000. The cause of the fire is considered suspicious, and both Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services and Owen Sound Police are actively investigating.

Residents are reminded to ensure their smoke alarms are functioning and that exits remain clear of obstructions to enhance safety in the event of an emergency.
