Man who barricaded himself in Stratford home charged with assault, forcible confinement

Charges have now been laid against a man who barricaded himself inside a Stratford home late last week following what police called an act of "intimate partner violence."

Stratford police were called to Mornington Street around 5:30 a.m. last Thursday after a person who was being held against their will escaped from a home and was found walking down the street.

Officers went to the suspect home, where a man barricaded himself inside.

He surrendered after several hours of negotiations with police.

A 51-year-old man is charged with 18 offences including aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, aggravated sexual assault, forcible confinement, uttering threats, firearms offences, and breach of released order. The man remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing.

Police have offered their thanks to the bystander who stopped to help the victim in the case.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
