Grey Bruce Greens select provincial candidate

The Grey Bruce Greens have selected their candidate for the next provincial election.

Riding association spokesperson Dave Meslin says Joel Loughead of Kimberley was selected at Monday night's meeting in Owen Sound.

Loughead is a municipal councillor in the Municipality of Grey Highlands. He wants to safeguard greenspaces, sensitive watersheds, and world-class farmland from increasing development pressures.

Loughead enjoys the outdoors, and holds degrees in both philosophy and English from the University of Toronto. Before his election to town council, he was a full-time wine and cider maker, showcasing the best of what Grey and Bruce can grow. He lives in the historic village of Kimberley with his wife Frances, and their young son Calvin.

Ontario Green Party Leader and MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner was a guest at the nomination meeting. Natasha Akiwenzie was the other person vying to become the candidate.

Ontario's next election has to be held before June 4, 2026, but there is speculation the vote could be held sometime in 2025.
