SIU investigating OPP shooting in Seaforth

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating an officer involved shooting in Seaforth.

At around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted about a man in distress.

Multiple officers arrived shortly later, including crisis negotiators, with one shooting the 26-year-old man with an Anti-riot Weapon Enfield (ARWEN), which is a less than lethal weapon. The officer shot twice with the man suffering non-serious injuries.

According to the SIU, a knife was believed to be involved in the incident.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
