Police arrest man setting off fireworks, seize drugs and weapons

Drugs and weapons were allegedly seized from a man police arrested for setting off fireworks as he walked along a street in Exeter.

Huron OPP officers were patrolling the town just after 9 p.m. on Thursday when they spotted a person lighting the fireworks on Anne Street. Police stopped the man and arrested him without incident.

A search turned up a quantity of methamphetamine and illegal weapons.

Police did not specify what type of weapons were seized.

A 35-year-old South Huron man has been charged with two counts each of carrying a concealed prohibited device, possession of a prohibited device, and possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order and one count each of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

The man has been in police custody awaiting a bail hearing at the Goderich courthouse, police said.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
