Cyclist killed in crash in Thornbury

A cyclist is dead after a collision in Thornbury on Thursday night.

Emergency crews were called to Highway 26 between 11 Line and 10 Line where a vehicle had struck the cyclist just after 7 p.m.

The 59-year-old cyclist was taken to Meaford General Hospital where they were pronounced dead, Collingwood OPP said.

The name of the deceased has not been released.

The driver of the vehicle that was involved in the crash has been cooperating with investigators, police said.

The section of Highway 26 was closed for several hours while investigators were on scene.

Police continue to probe the cause of the collision. They are asking anyone who was in the area around the same time who has information or dash-cam or surveillance footage that would assist investigators to call Collingwood OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
