The federal and provincial governments are investing up to $7.18 million in 70 dairy processing projects across the province, including two in Perth-Wellington, as part of the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP).
Matthew Rae, MPP for Perth-Wellington, highlighted the local impact, announcing $201,312 in funding for River's Edge Goat Dairy and Stonetown Cheese. River's Edge will receive $1,312 for efficiency upgrades, while Stonetown Cheese has been awarded $200,000 to modernize its operations.
"This is a great program for our local dairy processors," Rae said. "It’s one of the many ways our provincial government is supporting Ontario businesses. This funding will enable local processors to improve productivity, quality, and safety, ensuring they remain competitive in a dynamic industry."
The Dairy Processing Modernization Initiative provides cost-shared funding of up to $200,000 per applicant to cover equipment upgrades, training, and more. Open to processors of cow, goat, sheep, and water buffalo milk, the program has already driven $22 million in total capital investments and remains open to new applications.
"Ontario’s dairy processors have shown remarkable growth and continue to produce safe, high-quality products," said Rob Flack, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness. "The success of this initiative demonstrates the industry’s ability to modernize and seize new opportunities."
Christina Lewis, President of the Ontario Dairy Council, praised the program’s impact.
"This initiative helps Ontario dairies grow and meet increasing demand by modernizing facilities and improving productivity. It’s a critical step in supporting the sector’s long-term vitality," she said.
