Contractor charged with fraud in Meaford

A contractor is facing charges for allegedly keeping money for work they never completed in Meaford.

Grey Bruce OPP determined a person had contacted the contractor to complete a job on their property in August 2024. The contractor was provided a deposit for materials, but never returned to complete the requested work. Additionally, the contractor refused to return the money to the property owner, police said.

Following an investigation, a 43-year-old man from Georgian Bluffs is charged with fraud under $5,000.

The man is scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charge on February 27.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
